The East Wing

While the Executive Office of the President is housed in the West Wing, the East Wing has been reserved exclusively for the Office of the First Lady. Officially established in 1978, the OFL brings together the Social Office, the Protocol Office, the first lady's own policy advisors, and her personal staff. Each first lady has the ability to organize her office to her own liking, which has resulted in the staff growing and shrinking with each administration. The range of duties performed by the First Lady also changes with each administration.
